Broken Garage Door Spring in Blaine, MN

Topline Garage Door Co. is a family-owned business right here in the North Metro, built on honest, straightforward pricing for your garage door spring repair.

We install 25,000-cycle torsion springs as our standard, not the 10,000-cycle springs most companies use, and every repair carries a 1-year parts and labor guarantee. Bob is Minnesota state certified with more than 20 years replacing springs in this exact climate, and our trucks stock the parts for same-day service.

Instead of a technician who upsells a second spring or a full door replacement you didn’t ask about, you get a straight answer about which spring actually needs replacing and why.

Based in Blaine, we’re usually in your driveway the same day you call, with the right spring already on the truck.

Pricing at a glance

Broken spring replacement: $350–$650, parts and labor. Confirmed by phone before we schedule, confirmed again on-site before we touch anything — the number doesn’t change in between.

Repair Type Typical Range
Broken spring replacement
$350–$650

I’m so glad we chose this company. Bob was able to respond to our last minute call and finished quickly. After assessing for any issues, he tuned up our garage door, explained the issue to us, and best of all, didn’t try to upsell to us. He was friendly and professional. Our door runs so smoothly and quietly now! Next time we have garage door issues, we’ll definitely know who to call.

First, the company was willing to troubleshoot the situation over the phone. The mess needed in-person attention and TopLine was timely and oh, so thorough. Wish we would have called them before another company installed our opener incorrectly. So grateful for their professionalism! Just call them!

Five stars. I cannot recommend TopLine Garage Doors of Blaine, MN highly enough.

When it came time to replace two very old, very heavy, very worn garage doors (photo attached) in our Bearpath home, I researched what company had the best reviews, went with TopLine Garage Doors and am glad I did. From the first call to the moment the owner finished the job, packed up his tools, and drove away, the entire experience was exactly what home repair should be and almost never is. (photo attached)

The owner did the job himself and I could immediately see that this is a man who takes personal pride in his work and his reputation. He assessed the job, explained exactly what needed to be done and why, and then did it with skill and efficiency. The old doors were gone and the new ones were perfectly installed and operate beautifully.

The new doors are a complete transformation — smooth, quiet, solid, and exactly right for the house. What had been a daily minor frustration is now something I don’t think about at all, which is exactly what a good garage door should be.

If you’re in the Twin Cities area and need garage door work – replacement, repair, or anything in between – call TopLine.

The torsion spring on my garage door broke. I called the next morning to see about a quote and getting it fixed and was able to get an appointment the same day. The replacement took about 30 minutes and the whole door was tuned up in the process. Wonderful service by Matt and Topline Garage Door Co. Communication was excellent. I will absolutely call them again with any garage door issues.

Topline saved the day!! Prior to working with them, I had received astronomical quotes from 3 other large companies. The recommended work just felt unnecessary to me – there was no way a full replacement was the only answer a dent in the bottom panel & broken cord. As a widowed mom of 3 busy kids, I don’t have that kind of cash laying around, and I felt defeated as I was being taken advantage of. My garage remained open for months.
Finally a friend recommended TopLine. They came out, assessed what was going on, and had the garage door functioning an hour later for a fraction of the other quotes. I could not be happier!!

We found Topline by searching the neighborhood FB group for a garage door company people were happy with. Topline had so many recommendations in the posts I found. I called them up, they were wonderful to work with. They helped find a time that worked with our schedule. The work was done well and exceeded my expectations. I am very happy we ended up using them. Communication was top notch. They were very clear about the work that was going to be done. We will be using them for all future work

The spring of my garage door broke about mid-afternoon and the door would not move (with my car trapped inside the garage). My son recommended Top line, since they had done excellent work for him. They were out here within the hour and totally replaced the springs, were very courteous, professional, and promptly able, having all parts on hand, reasonable as well. A+++. Will highly recommend Topline Door Co.!

They responded promptly, quicker than I expected. They researched the potential for repairing my old door opener and I believe them that repair was not possible given the age of my old opener. They earned my trust. They installed a new quality opener and set it up completely. Everything was new. They didn’t reuse any functional old parts. They cleaned up all the old parts and hauled them away even saving a couple led light bulbs for later use. They seem to run a tight business and they understand the critical need to earn a customer’s confidence.

The price doubled once the tech saw the door

You’ve heard this from a neighbor, or lived it yourself: a $200 phone quote turns into $600 once someone’s standing in your garage.

When you call Topline about a spring, we ask what the door does and give you a real range before anyone drives out. That range can narrow once the tech sees the springs up close, but it should not double. If we find something else close to failing, like a cable or a second spring near the end of its life, we tell you before we touch it, not after.

In Champlin

Champlin's own city housing plan flags its 1980s-built homes as entering a reinvestment window, and springs are usually the first system to hit that mark. A door installed when the house was built in the late '80s is now on its second or even third spring by cycle count alone. If you're not sure which round you're on, we can tell from the spring's coil condition and the door's balance in about five minutes.

Your car is trapped inside and you need it today

A broken spring doesn’t wait for a convenient morning. The car is in the garage, the door won’t budge, and you’re already late.

Most spring calls are finished in 30 to 60 minutes once we arrive, car and door both back to normal the same day.

Service Area
Blaine, Anoka, Coon Rapids, Andover, Ham Lake & the full North Metro

The springs have never been touched since the house was built

Anoka has the oldest housing stock in Topline’s service area, with a median construction year of 1973 and plenty of homes built well before 1940. Many of those garages are original, detached, single-stall structures that have never had the springs replaced.

In Oak Grove

Properties in Oak Grove often have more than one garage door between the house and a pole barn or workshop, and it's easy for the outbuilding springs to get overlooked while the house door gets all the attention. When we're out for one spring repair on a multi-door property, we check the others while we're there. Rural pole-barn doors often run larger, heavier-duty springs than a standard residential door, so getting the size right matters more here than elsewhere in the North Metro.

One spring broke, so now you’re wondering about the other one

When one torsion spring fails, the second one is usually not far behind. It carried the same load, for the same number of cycles, for the same number of years.
  • Andover’s newer subdivisions: often 3-car and 4-car garages with wide 18-foot double doors
  • Larger doors: put more total weight on a dual-spring system than a standard single door carries
  • Replacing only the failed spring: can leave the door running unevenly until the second one goes too

We inspect both springs together and tell you honestly whether one repair will hold or whether replacing the pair now saves you a second service call later.

In Forest Lake

Forest Lake's lakefront homes tend to have larger, heavier insulated doors that see daily use, which puts more cycles on a spring system than a standard suburban door sees in the same number of years. On a door like that, a bargain 10,000-cycle spring wears out faster than the math suggests. We size springs to the door's actual weight and use pattern, not just its width.

Trying to save the service call by doing it yourself

A garage door spring holds enough tension to lift a 150 to 400 pound door, and releasing that tension without the right tools is one of the more dangerous DIY repairs a homeowner can attempt.

  • Weight involved: 150 to 400 pounds falls on you the moment the spring is disconnected
  • Tools required: proper winding bars and safety equipment, not a workaround
  • Our approach: state-certified techs who tell you honestly if you only need one spring, not two

The goal isn’t to sell you more than the job requires. It’s to get your door working safely and correctly the first time.

Why Homeowners in the North Metro Call Topline

Bob and Matt From Topline Garage Door Co
Bob started Topline in 2001 because he’d spent years watching national operators charge Blaine homeowners twice what a job was worth. He knew the trade. He went out on his own to do it the way he thought it should be done: give people the honest answer, don’t sell them something they don’t need, and back up the work.

Today, Bob and his team run every job out of Blaine. They are trained and certified. We are not a franchise and we do not route your call to a national center. When you call 763-784-DOOR, you reach us.

We stock 25,000-cycle springs as standard because it is the better product at a comparable price. We carry the parts that cover most North Metro failures on every truck so most jobs are done in one visit. Our 1-year parts and labor guarantee on installed parts is in writing. So is the free annual tune-up on every door we install.

When another company tells you that you need a full door replacement for a dented panel and a broken cord, call us for a second opinion. We will tell you straight up what you actually need.

Garage Door Spring Repair — Common Questions

How much does it cost to replace a garage door spring?

Most torsion spring replacements in the North Metro run $350 to $650 with Topline, covering both the part and the labor. The exact number depends on the type of spring, whether one or both need replacing, and how many are already showing wear. We give you a real range over the phone before scheduling, and confirm the exact price on-site before we touch anything, so the number you hear at the end of the call is the number you pay.

The clearest sign is a loud bang from the garage, followed by a door that suddenly feels too heavy to lift by hand. You may also see a visible gap in the coil above the door, or notice the door opening unevenly if only one of two springs has failed. If you hear that bang or the door won’t budge, stop using the opener and call us before forcing it.

If your door has two springs and one has failed, we usually recommend replacing both. They carry the same load for the same number of cycles, so if one has reached the end of its life, the other typically isn’t far behind. We’ll check the condition of both before we make that call, and we’ll tell you honestly if the second spring has real life left in it rather than replacing it just to sell a second part.

You can try, but we don’t recommend it. Without the spring, the full weight of the door, often 150 to 400 pounds, falls on you instead of the counterbalance system. If you need the door open before we arrive, use the manual release cord slowly and with both hands, and stop immediately if it feels heavy or uneven. It’s safer to wait for a technician than to force it.

Yes. Every spring we install is backed by our 1-year parts and labor guarantee. We also install 25,000-cycle springs as our standard rather than the 10,000-cycle springs most companies use, so the spring itself is built to outlast the industry norm before the warranty period even becomes relevant.

Most spring replacements are finished in 30 to 60 minutes once the tech arrives. Our trucks are stocked with the springs, cables, and hardware needed for the most common jobs across the North Metro, so we’re rarely waiting on a part to be ordered. Same-day appointments are available for a spring that’s already failed.
